The South Yorkshire Police did a great job organising the show and it
really showed that it had been put together by professional people. Being
free entry, there was no shortage of visitors on either day, and with warm
sunny weather, bikers and their families alike all had a great time.
Motogymkhana created a real "stir" with a sizeable crowd
watching the proceedings pretty much all day, both days. Several Police
riders decided to try their hand at the new sport after the show had closed Saturday night,
showing off their skills on their fully-loaded BMW R1200RT bikes. They
enjoyed themselves so much that they insisted upon repeating the performance on
Sunday, but at 2pm in front of the crowd! I'm sure there was a
section of the crowd that secretly hoped they would see one of the "boys
in blue" embarrass himself by "binning" his bike, but the
only casualty was one of the bikes' dry clutches - very smelly by the end
of the third "attack" !!!
The AJP bikes that Motogymkhana use performed faultlessly, and approximately 65 people had their first taste of both Motogymkhana and an AJP over the course of the two days. The static display bikes we had (a PR3 200 Ultrapassar, PR4 125 SM, and a PR5 250LC Enduro) created an awful lot of interest and positive comments; resulted in the distribution of dozens of leaflets and price lists, and I'm sure the local dealer (Earnshaws of Huddersfield) will see some sales as a result.
